In the third section you will see a tutorial of how to set up a site now with SiteGround and WordPress!
Whether you are starting a mom blog, help blog, sports blog, etc. I always recommend WP. All my blogs are WP. WordPress sites rank well in the search engines, you get 430,000 free plugins, the largest site builder community in the world, more themes, easier installation, and more. WordPress powers over 26% of the entire web. No other platform is anywhere near this close. You will find the dashboard very easy to use.
Never choose a free hosted site. Your website will never rank well, it is not truly yours, it can easily be terminated for any small reason, you have an unprofessional permalink structure, most contain advertisement to pay for hosting costs, you are given a lack of themes, etc. Choose your own hosting.
I strongly recommend SiteGround. It has the highest customer satisfaction of all web hosting companies in 2016, fastest load speed, prices start from $3.95 a month which is perfect, 24/7 all around support, and they offer the fastest setup time because their website wizard. Let’s set up your site right now!
Make sure that you choose a catchy website name. SiteGround gives you a free domain name so use that to your advantage. Create a name that makes your site stand out more. I strongly recommend against name domains such as amyjohnson.com. Allow your name to match your niche.
- Start SiteGround here (60% off.)
- Choose a plan
- Create a domain name
- Fill in setup info.
- You will then see a popup. Choose the first option to automatically install WordPress.
- Create your WordPress login info and choose any template for now.
- It took 4-5 minutes and now your advice blog is now on the web!
- Now you can add the plugins, and themes that you desire.
WordPress gives you over 2000 free themes to choose from. As soon as you enter into your dashboard you can select any free theme in the appearance area. In the beginning you can start off with a free them, but I always recommend buying your own theme from a template shop. The most popular bloggers such as Neil Patel, Darren Rowse, and Amy Andrews are using Genesis for ease of use and speed. The Genesis framework makes your website very fast. Check out Genesis themes here.

Pinterest. Pinterest has been known to change blogs overnight! I witnessed hundreds of users from a single Pinterest post. Never neglect the power that YouTube has.

Inbound – Inbound is an awesome community of bloggers and other professionals who absolutely love reading and sharing blog posts.
Facebook – This should actually be at the top of the list. Everyone has a Facebook! With Billions of people using FaceBook, it should be easy to gain traffic. One thing that I strongly recommend is to join as many Facebook communities as you can. The more the better!
Instagram – Add a link to your blog on your Instagram account. It’s so easy to get Instagram followers! Encourage your followers to check out your blog. Post encouraging quotes or advice quotes. Always remember to use hashtags!
Live Chat from ClickDesk – ClickDesk also allows web visitors to do voice and video chat from your website directly without installing any additional hardware or software. Manage your emails & offline chats with their new integrated help desk. Agents can now answer live chats, calls and tickets from agent panel, their mobile app or Google talk.

W3 Total Cache – I love this plugin. You need a cache plugin. It dramatically improves the load speed and user experience of your advice website.
WPForms – This is an awesome plugin! WPForms allows you to easily create contact forms, email subscription forms, order forms, payment forms, and more.
Any commenting plugin – You can choose to install a commenting plugin or choose not to. For most blogs I recommend that you install a commenting system to engage with your readers and to allow your readers to engage with each other. I really love Disqus, but there are many awesome commenting plugins to choose from. Find out what works best for you.
Any social Share – Social sharing plugins are great plugins to get more exposure to your blog. You allow your readers to share your content on their social media accounts. On this blog, I have a floating social bar, but there are many social plugins to choose from.
WooCommerce – This plugin turns your website into an ecommerce store. WooCommerce actually powers over 30% of all online stores. Why not install the top eccommerce platform on the planet? Best of all is that it is free to install and it can be done in seconds. Sell helpful products, books, t-shirts, etc. Use your mind to use WooCommerce effectively.
There is nothing wrong with blogging for a living. There are a plethora of ways that you can generate an income from your blog. You can sell products, sell your services, sell your advice, etc. You can sell ad space, you can use Adsense, promote products and more. Just use your head. As time goes on you will start earning an income. Patience is the key to your blogging success!
Aweber is essential for your blog. It is important that you get email subscribers especially for an advice blog. You can easily promote your books. Over time you will have thousands of subscribers. You also want this to be able to send encouraging words to your subscribers. You should get to know them more. An email list allows your relationship to grow with your readers! With an advice blog there needs to be a growing connection with your readers so I can encourage you to start Aweber immediately. Check out Aweber.
It is so easy to fall into the trap of judging your readers. It’s so easy to start pointing fingers. For example, someone says that they are having an affair and you say something like you evil tramp how could you do something like that?! We have to be careful how we talk to our readers. We have to be respectful and we have to come with a loving heart. Instead of trying to tear someone down see what you can do to help that person instead. Find the solution or direct your reader to someone who is more equipped to help them.
One of the greatest things about blogging is when you capture ideas. My phone notepad contains a bunch of my blog ideas. I can tend to forget ideas fairly easy so I write them in my notepad. If you do this you will find that after a while you have a long list of blog post ideas and other ways that you can make your blog better. Start capturing every idea immediately. It makes blogging 10x better!
It is so easy to follow how other people run their blog. Don’t change your voice. People came to hear your voice not someone else’s voice. Be careful that you do not change up your style. If you have a certain tone that you use I encourage you to stick with that tone! Write in the same way that you talk. Why do I say that? I say that because people love personality. Readers want to feel at ease with the author and never forget that! Allow your readers to truly connect with you!
The biggest killer to your blog is you. One of the biggest regrets I have about blogging is that I didn’t start sooner. Procrastination kills your dreams. If you try and keep at it you will always succeed. That is what many people fail to realize. I encourage you to start today so you can start ranking.
“The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people.” Randy Pausch
