RapidWeaver is the all-in-one web design software for Mac that allows you to build a website. This website editor was created by Realmac Software in 2002.
WP is a free, Web-based software program that people can use to build and maintain a website or blog.
The good thing is that at least RapidWeaver is not as expensive as editors such as Dreamweaver, but it is going to cost you 90 dollars for RapidWeaver 6. That is not including the price for hosting, the price for additional add-ons which you will not be able to run away from, and help from outside sources. The cost will creep up on you. I didn’t even mention that it costs $40 to upgrade from an earlier version. That means every upgrade you have to dish out money.
Before we even start, WP comes out on top in the price comparison because WordPress is completely free. All you have to worry about is hosting and a domain. I strongly recommend that you use SiteGround because they are one of the best, they have a 99.99% uptime, it takes 5 minutes to create a site with their quick install feature, they are cheap, they offer auto backups, and more.
It is going to cost you $3.95 a month and on top of that they give you a free domain.
Many people ask is RapidWeaver easy to use. It depends on what you mean by easy, but in my opinion it is. RW is easier than Dreamweaver and it is not as limiting as iweb. RapidWeaver is a web design application to help you easily create professional websites. If you are not into pure web builders than WP is immediately the best choice. The good thing about RW is that it targets people with little to no coding knowledge.
If you were hoping for a WYSIWYG, then you will be disappointed. Although that is their selling point RW is not a WYSIWYG. A true WYSIWYG allows you to see the text or page as you’re editing. What they promote as a WYSIWYG is actually a preview feature.
WordPress has more of a click approach and it is easier and here is why. You don’t have to build anything. You don’t need to know any code. All you have to do is install a theme and you are ready to go. It takes literately 5 minutes or less to create a professional website with SiteGround. On top of that you are given more plugins to help you with WP. The user interface is more organized and it is easier to understand than with RW.
There is a huge difference when it comes to plugins. RW does have plugins that you can install, but the problem is that they are not free. You will end up having to pay around $20 dollars and up for every new feature that you want to add to your site. This can become expensive for you in the long run. With my WordPress site there are many plugins that I try out that I don’t keep. If you are paying $20 a plugin you will not be able to do this. RapidWeaver has some nice plugins, but you are not getting the same amount as WordPress and you are not getting the quality.
WordPress offers you thousands of free plugins. In fact, there are over 31,000 plugins and because WordPress has the largest community, more plugins are being built every day. These plugins allow your website to grow as your traffic grows. You have everything in front of you and it only takes one click to install.
Notable plugins that WordPress has to offer is the Yoast SEO plugin, which is the most powerful SEO plugin on the web. WordPress has the Woocommerce plugin which powers over 30% of all ecommerce businesses on the internet. You will not find these plugins anywhere else. If you plan on starting an online business, RapidWeaver does not offer some plugins that you might want in the future.
WordPress offers you things like referral program plugins to gain more sales. Chat to help you communicate with clients, and much more. These are things that you will not get with RW. In this category it is not even close.
Blogging is a huge part of all businesses.
WordPress currently holds the #1 spot when it comes to CMS. People forget that WordPress started off as a blogging platform. If you plan on doing a lot of blogging on your website then choose WP because it was built for it.
With RW you can blog as well, but it does not have the blog features that WordPress has to offer. On top of that it is going to cost you $40 because you have to buy a plugin. It is not built-in like many other RW features are not built-in. RapidWeaver is more of a web design tool. You are going to run into limitations when it comes to blogging. For example, if you have employees they will not be able to add blog entries from their web browser.
WordPress has over 2000 free themes alone that you can install as soon as you log into your dashboard. RapidWeaver only has about 230 themes for around $30 each. One knock on their themes is that photo galleries render poorly in some of their themes.
Most likely you are going to buy a premium WordPress theme from somewhere online. If you are searching for the perfect theme you are going to find it with WP. Whether you want a responsive, ecommerce, magazine style, minimalist, multimedia, portfolio, or SEO theme, WP has a larger selection. If you want an SEO driven theme, then check out StudioPress, which is what most WP users are using.
Google will penalize your site if it doesn’t display well on different devices. Not only do you have Google to worry about, but your visitors will not be pleased with this as well. For these reasons I made sure that all of my websites are responsive.
There are only 15 responsive RapidWeaver themes and sometimes because of your images and content you still might need to make some more modifications. You might have to pay money for a responsive layout stack. With WordPress you are not going to have to deal with this huge problem.
Both platforms give you SEO functions, but WordPress has more things that will work to your advantage. Most of the top websites on Google are WP sites. With WordPress you can install amazing SEO plugins to help your rankings. You can install SEO themes from StudioPress. You can’t do this with RW. You will not be able to install the top cache plugins to increase your site speed. You will not be able to install optimizers to optimize your images for SEO.
If you are on a budget, then RW is not for you. RapidWeaver is an OK program, but it’s not fantastic and it doesn’t have all the features that you might want. WordPress has better SEO, more plugins, it is more popular, it is better for the future, it is cheaper, it lets you make a site faster, it offers more support, it has a larger community, etc.
2. Choose a plan.
3. Continue the setup process like you would with anything that you sign up for.
4. When you’re finished you will see a popup come up to automatically install WordPress.
5. Click the first option and continue.
6. Create your WordPress login information and you are up and running.
In your dashboard install a free theme, but I recommend Genesis from StudioPress.
