I will review Linode Vs DigitalOcean to help you with choosing the next VPS host for your website.

There is something that you need to know before choosing one of these two companies. This is a battle between unmanaged VPS hosting providers. Unmanaged VPS is not recommend for beginners.

Linode Vs DigitalOcean: Best VPS Hosting (Easy Choice)

It is recommended for those with experience. With unmanaged VPS everything is on your shoulders and not the hosting company.

You have to worry about installing, configuring, and troubleshooting issues related to your server. That will require some reading and learning.

If you have no technical skills and are new to making websites choose a regular managed shared hosting company. I recommend SiteGround which gives you a free domain and costs $3.95/mo. Introduction for those who want to use these top hosting providers.

Now if you are a developer or if you are eager to learn how to develop, then Linode and DigitalOcean are two great options. Linode was founded by Christopher Aker and launched in 2003. DigitalOcean was founded by Ben and Moisey Uretsky in 2011 and as of today it is the more popular company and one of the largest hosting providers in the world.

They both guarantee a 99.99% uptime. Uptime is not something that you should base a choice off of with these two. There is no company that is ever perfect with uptime. You can have 99.99% uptime for 4 months and have 99.98% on the 5th month. They both are VPS and they deliver. They will even credit you for any down time. All in all they both get the job done and uptime is something that you shouldn’t worry about.

Which is better for the price?

Let’s be honest, the price matters. Usually most people want the best price while still getting the top ocean price comparison

These are the first set of DO plans. We will all agree that DigitalOcean has a more attractive plan because we are all looking at the 5 dollar plan. I know what you’re saying, 5 dollars for VPS, that is a steal and I will admit it is, but you have to take into account the 512MB. I will tell you right now that for most people 512MB is enough. You will still be able to run Apache, Mysql , and more. Some people run multiple WP sites on the 5 dollar plan. Receive a $10 credit here.

These are the first set of Linode plans. There $10 plan is more than enough for regular projects.

My takeaway on the price

DO has a 5 dollar plan and with this DO credit link you will get 10 bucks credit, which is essentially 2 months free on us.

They have the same core processor amount except when you get to the $40 and $80 a month plan.

When you compare the $10/mo plans DO offers you more GB SSD storage with 30.

Linode gives more bandwidth, but DigitalOcean doesn’t charge for overage while Linode does, which is a big plus.

Speed comparison

Upon testing two sites from the same place, one using DigitalOcean and one using Linode, I found that DO is faster. The average load speed for DigitalOcean was slightly under 500. The average load speed for Linode was slightly above 500.

CPU Speed – 2800 MHz

CPU Cache – 25600KB

CPU Speed – 2399 MHz

CPU Cache – 15360 KB

Security comparison

When it comes to security they both have identical features such as Two-factor authentication which requires two forms of authentication. They both have KVM Virtualization for a high level of security. They both have SSH configuration. All in all I feel DigitalOcean offers better security, and it’s more user-friendly to help you. Linode security is not a problem, but they did have a couple of security breaches in the past that made many users complain. Even though this is true they did take extra measures for better security in the future so you don’t need to fear.

Ease factor

When it comes to ease of use I strongly believe that beginners will feel more comfortable using DO because the interface is more user-friendly. DO has done a lot of work to target newbies with an intuitive interface. With Do the setup is faster, but you will find that Linode has more features. One thing that I wish DigitalOcean had that Linode has is longview. This is a service that logs all your system-level metrics and displays them in zoomable graphs. They both offer helpful tutorials to help you get started.

I always rave to others about DO’s ticket support because it is extremely fast. When it comes to ticket support response DigitalOcean has the edge over Linode.

They both offer forums, but you will find that the DO forum is more user-friendly and it’s easier to post a question and search for the answers that you need.

One thing I like about Linode is that, phone support is available day and night for existing customers. With DigitalOcean you don’t have phone support, but they make up for it with their extremely fast ticket system.

With over 1200 tutorials it is safe to say that DigitalOcean has more guides to help you with setting up and securing your servers.

Payment options

This is where Linode needs to seriously step their game up. I say this because they do not accept PayPal as a payment option which DigitalOcean does, along with major credit cards. The fact that everyone knows Linode was hacked on a few occasions should have led them to install a PayPal payment option for customer assurance and safety.

I recommend DigitalOcean

DigitalOcean is growing extremely fast for a reason. DigitalOcean is better for people with less experience, slightly better load time, faster CPU, and it’s hard to beat their $5 plan. I recommend trying them today.
